Linux at last!
Random Crap February 28th, 2006
I’ve installed SUSE linux to my Presario 5020 (300MHz with 128+256MB ram), and I gotta say that even at 800×600, SUSE looks incredibly sexy with a KDE interface.

You know, now that I’m halfway through this quarter, I’m really starting to second guess my decision to do 3d animation. Why? Simply because I really hate drawing. At first I liked it, but now it’s getting annoying. perhaps it’s because I don’t take the time to watch the tapes and do random sketches everyday, but I’m just not feelin’ the love, for lack of a better expression.
Computer tech on the other hand, is totally awesome. I’m enjoying it and having fun, next quarter I’m going to take 2 computer techie class, one is this intern type class and the other is a Linux class. Perhaps I should have just done computer technician? Heck if I know, I just enjoy playing with computers a lot :/ I guess I’ll eventually figure things out.
I’ve accepted a challenge to Build a computer in under 5 minutes.
How did this occur?
In the Computer Tech class we don’t have homework, rather we have assessments. Which are basically little projects we have to do on the side. You write a manual, then you show the manual to one of the aides on a lab day, and then you do the assessment, which is basically what you wrote in the manual.
We’re supposed to be on number 6 this week, but me being the slacker I was, didn’t do many.
I came in today and decided I should actually work on them, I came with with number 3 and had one of the aides look at it, he proceeded to say things like “dude, you’re such a slacker” and “You still HAven’t done it?”
they all pretty much poked fun at me, anywho, I didn’t get it done today since I ran out of time.
Before I left I told him I would have the assessments up through 6 done for him to read next time (friday).
He then asked if I had done the Kit (they give you a box of that parts of a computer, you build the computer, format the drive, partition it, and put an operating system on it with drivers for a cd-rom). I told him I did it for extra credit last week.
He then challenged me to do it in 10 minutes. I said I’d do it.
then he said if I did it in seven minutes he’d buy me pizza on the open lab days for the rest of the quarter.
Of course then somone has to pipe in and say “You should do it in five!”.
He then replied to that with “I’ll buy you pizza if you do it under five minutes.”
I accepted the challenge.
So now I’m reviewing everything I will need to do for the kit, It’s not incredibly difficult and I should be able to pull it off. I’m going to need to write up those assessments too :/
More crappy drawings.

This is a must have for anyone dual-booting linux and windows:
Yay!
My dad came to visit me! He’ll be in seattle for a few days, He called me this morning and asked if I wanted the monitor from my old computer. I said yes and he brought it! He also brought my birth certificate too.
It took me a heck of a long time to get my monitor setup, the shelf was too low so I had to raise it, but when my landlord painted the room he didn’t take the shelves out. So I had to pry the shelf off the hooks and the hooks out. I had to dig paint out of the holes too.
At one point the shelf almost fell down but the monitor caught it
I finalyl got everything setup, it looks pretty cool. Plus the cables are a little more organized, I moved the usb hub to the shelf, so everything is up there now. Although I need to figure out how to make the cable for the left speaker longer, it’s a little tight at the moment…
Blargh, I had my Math Mid-term, I was totally burned out.
This time around I flew through it, I didn’t want miss a couple questions because I didn’t get to them :/.
I think I did pretty good, there was one question I didn’t get because I didn’t know what the wanted out of it (5000 dollars discounted at 12% for 9 months).
Yes, I know it’s all easy stuff, but it’s a good refresher course. Next quarter is Calculus
Even though I don’t need it
And yesterday (monday) Brandon came over. He drove me from BCC. I showed him around the house then we hung out in my room. We hopped on IRC, turned on the webcam, and gave people the link to the online stream, then we danced and did random crap, at one point we flashed the camera.
Fun times :p
It’s a really odd game, but highly addictive.
I figured it was worth a post.
