Random linux advice!

Geekin' out, Useful bits of info May 28th, 2006

It’s time for some random advice when it comes to linux!

In firefox, they have this really annoying feature, it’s this middle-click search function.
If you highlight some text in a page and middle-click anywhere on the page, it will take you to a random page! This is incredibly annoying, I searched around and found out that you turn it off by going into about:config and searching for “clipboard.autocopy” you turn that off, restart firefox, and it’s gone!
This will fix the problem with middle-click on links, however if you want to disable the annoying clipboard feature, check The firefox mouse feature list for how to turn it off completely.

Also, if you ever have a problem with X not starting, run “dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86” to reconfigure X. And if for some reason gdm starts instead of kdm when you start X, just type kdm instead!

Congress to vote on Net neutrality

Random Crap May 25th, 2006

Looks like the day has come, Congress is going to vote on the net neutrality bill, this will decide whether or not we will have a tiered internet.

Simply put, tiered internet would mean that ISP’s would cap the traffic to sites unless they paid a fee for larger bandwidth. Which is total bullshit in my opinion.

As such, I strongly recommend that everyone follow this link at the bottom of this post and call their Congressman about it and tell them to vote for the bill.

Maya!

College, Geekin' out May 24th, 2006

At long last we have finished with Flash in the animation class. The entire first half of the quarter was spent on flash, which sucks ass for me. We’ve now finally started on Maya, which I totally kick ass at (3+ years of experience).

And what’s our first project? Create a rube goldberg device. There are going to be 3 components to it. The instructions are to key all the movements. Buuuuut I’m going to make it Dynamic! All I’ll need to do are creative active and passive rigid bodies, connect them, add a little gravity and wind. And voila! They move!

Revamp

Random Crap May 22nd, 2006

I’ve been thinking this over, and I think I shall change the layout of the site, along with color scheme. While applying to jobs, I’ve been haing to refer them to my online portfolio, which is on here (hint: look at the page tree).
And my site doesn’t look very, um, professional. Which is a huge problem when applying for jobs. I’ve decided that it will be blue with a slightly beveled look to it, but since I suck at making wordpress themes, I’m most likely going to try and find several themes with what I want, then get them all really drunk and have them make hard love to eachother and create a theme for me :)

Hole In the Ozone may Disappear by 2050

Random Crap May 20th, 2006

The ozone hole over the Antarctic is likely to begin contracting in the future and may disappear by 2050 because of a reduction in the release of chlorofluorocarbons and other ozone-depleting gases, according to a team of Japanese scientists.
