System Upgrade!

Geekin' out June 27th, 2006

Well, after many years of not upgrading my motherboard, I’m going to do it.
Despite being a kick ass motherboard at the time I purchased it, too many years have gone by and my motherboard and cpu are far below standard. The entire socket has been phased out and upgrading the cpu to a faster model wouldn’t make a difference. As such, I’m going to upgrade the motherboard and cpu.

This also means that I’ll have to get some RAM too along with a Hard Drive since IDE drives are being phased out. I’m going to keep the 200gig and CD-RW plugged in so I’ll need a Hard Drive. Check below for the list of what I’ll be getting: Read the rest of this entry »

Boeingness

Bellevue June 21st, 2006

Yesterday when I was driving back to bellevue I got a call from the recruiter and We set up a meeting time for 9:30 the next day. He gave me the address, and I wrote it down on some paper I had.
Well, I used google maps to get the directions, entering 1700 17th ave as the destination. I got there and found myself at an apartment complex for the elderly. I was hella confused and called him up, I then found out it was at 1700 7th ave. I was about 8 miles from where I should be. It was about 9:55 (they were late or something so I stood around waiting for a bit) when I found this out, and I told him I would be a little late, he said no problem etc. etc.
I spent about 15 minutes trying to find the place, thinking that if I just went the other way the streets would count down to 7th ave. I finally gave up on that and whipped out my phone and used the google local application I had installed (It rocks my socks) and managed to find my way there. Well, if I had been told that I was going to the convention center, I’d have known exactly where I was going. Unfortuantely I was just given an address >:(
I found a paid parking lot and parked there and went in.
I checked in and waited my turn, I went in and finally met Carl Chadwell, the man I had speaking with for the past week. along with my boss, who didn’t appear to be too sociable :/
I’m getting my passport renewed so I brought my old expired one, they freaked out on me saying this wouldn’t do and I freaked out a little too, since I didn’t have a birth certificate with me (my dad lost it). However Carl called Boeing and spoke with them and they said it was fine, lucky for me :) I filled out the rest of the paperwork and signed a bunch of stuff and I was done! He’s going to be emailing me the address in Kent and I start monday!

Woo! I got a job!

I’ve pretty much got the job now. I called up the recruiter and we discussed the time of interview. He said that they were going to rent an Conference room and They would have all the candidates come in on tuesday.
I went “Uh Oh!” since I’m going to pullman on Saturday, and I wanted some time to hang out with people. I talked to him about it, telling him I would be heading down to pullman to get my car, and He said that they may go over to wednsday, which was awesome for me. So we’ve confirmed for Wednsday, He’s going to email me the paperwork so It’ll just be a matter of handing over the paperwork, and meeting my bosses.

Kitty Poodle

Random Crap June 7th, 2006

Oh dear god….

My parents shaved my cat….

Kitty Poodle!

My mom called me asking for my email and I gave it to her. Shortly after I got off the phone I received mentioned picture.
I quickly called her back and my creation can be summed up as “WTF?” She told me that the cat’s hair was getting messy and crap was sticking to it and it was bringing stuff in, so they decided to take it to the vet. They took him in for a long overdue checkup and had him shaved while they were there.
He looks pissed in that picture, I’m pretty sure I would be pissed too if I was him.
After my initial reaction wore off we began talking about other things, so I decided to let my parents know that I was going to completely switch to doing a degree in Tech support. I was going to do animation and tech support but something made me change my mind.

Last weekend Brandon talked to Steve, the instructor for the Linux certification course, about having a linux server course this fall, and he agreed. He told me about it and I seriously got psyched about it. After that I thought about what I was doing and decided that I definently enjoyed Working with computer systems way more then sitting at a computer and drawing models and making textures.
As such I’m going to work on a degree in tech support, and maybe one in Networking services while I’m at it. After which I’ll get a job doing something and then get a BS somewhere down the line.

MoboWasher Part 2

Geekin' out June 4th, 2006

This post is a follow-up of This one.

I went to lab this morning, a little tired and feeling crappy as usual (got a full nights rest for once though!). I grabbed the motherboard and video card off the towel they had been sitting on after I took them out of the dishwasher, packed them into anti-static bags and headed off to the Computer lab (where I’m an tech support intern).

Now that I have a fully functional desktop computer, I’m left with a motherboard and video card that are no longer functional. After some speculation, I decided it was due to the sticky film on the motherboard and card.
I decided that since neither of these worked, I would try a suggestion a couple people had recommended.

Run it through the dishwasher.

3d modeling a rube goldberg device sucks big time.

Set it all up, and if something goes wrong, you have to make all the needed adjustments then watch it through again.

And dominos take forever to fall.
