Employed at last

Bellevue, College, Geekin' out July 31st, 2006

I got a reply back from the interview, and I got the job! The pay is pretty awesome (It’s the same amount i got paid at the boeing job) and the location isn’t that bad (20 minute drive, and the hours are really flexible). This is going to work great for classes when they start, 20 hour weeks with 16 minimum, which isn’t that bad at all. A complete schedule is definently going to keep me on task and busy (at least that’s how i like to think). I think i’ll be starting this wednsday (I think at 10am, but I’m not too sure).

On a sidenote, I have a new roommate. His name is Shard and he’s pretty awesome, he moved in about a week ago. He is by far the coolest roommate i have met so far, he has a laptop so he uses the internet (split bill!), and when we do talk, they’re actual conversations, not the “Oh crap i ran into him, must think of something to say” conversations i’ve had with everyone else. So far things are looking good (I might just stay here another 3-6 months depending on how things go) and he hasn’t cooked anything so spicy you can’t breath.

Another interview!

Bellevue, Geekin' out, Pullman July 27th, 2006

I had another interview today, this one went a lot better then the last one. It’s a part-time tech job, From what they told me it is a pretty awesome job. It’s a 3 month job this time, so if i get it that’ll mean i can fill my fridge with tasty treats :p
I haven’t a clue what the pay will be but from what Tom (HR guy) told me, it would be at a good rate for the commute i would be making (it’s about 14 miles away).
I also finally had the opportunity to show off my portfolio too! Which was pretty nifty, they were impressed by it, I told them everything i’ve done. Michael (Head Tech Director) asked me a couple questions (the vital components of a computer), and I responded with all the correct answers, they showed me where I’d be working (if i were hired) and it looks like a pretty awesome place to work at :)

In other news, my dad dropped by today, he was coming back from a conference and had to be in pullman today so he only stopped by to say hi and we chatted a bit. He informed me that my passport got sent back, and apparently i have to go to city hall to get it sorted out (What the heck does city hall have to do with my passport renewal?). I’m hoping it doesn’t mean Pullman city hall, because then i’ll have to drive all the way down there to get it all done :(

Mac support

Geekin' out July 13th, 2006

I just walked a mac user through setting their ip to static and then setting up port forwarding.

And I’ve never actually used a mac before (aside from internet browsing, that doesn’t count though)

Post-interview

Bellevue, College, Geekin' out, Pullman July 13th, 2006

Well, I had the interview. It went fairly well in my opinion. The woman who interviewed me (her name is Nikki, awesome name!) was pretty cool too, wasn’t the usual interrogation process either, she graduated from wsu which is rock awesome (Someone from pullman!) and wasn’t impersonal at all.

Anyways, enough of that. The job turned out to be more of a data entry position (updating documents for a big company using word and excel), the pay was decent although the details of the job were really vague, as such it wasn’t really a position I would want to have unless I got more information.

Nikki asked me a few questions about my experience and what not, and she is going to look into other jobs they have available, help desk positions, which is something that I’m wanting to do for the time being.

I’m hoping for something that’s more part-time then full-time, I don’t want to put college on hold for a job that doesn’t pay me about 13 bucks (I have rent to pay and stuff) plus I want to be done with at least one degree in a year.

Another Interview

Bellevue, College, Geekin' out July 12th, 2006

Well, my job at boeing ends tomorrow. I was supposed to be done today, but i have to check a building that another group messed up on. Lucky for me I got a call earlier this week from a recruiter about a job as a help desk technician. This is pretty cool, especially since that’s the position I want to have within a year in order to be able to save up money and work on my college degrees.

I’m really hoping I do get hired, it’s a 3 month job and the hours are supposed to be 9to5, but I’m a little iffy if they’ll hire me since i’ll be taking classes this fall, and they will most definently interfere with the hours they want me to do. I guess I’ll talk to them about that tomorrow and hope they are cool with it.

And I also completely forgot that I’m supposed to be going to sudan in august too :/
I haven’t gotten my passport back yet, and it’s been close to a month now. I’m guessing if I don’t get it by the end of next week, it’s unlikely I will be going.

It burns to breathe

Bellevue, Random Crap July 11th, 2006

Sami (roommate) was making stir fry.

Sami didn’t remove all the seeds from the jalepeno peppers.

Sami cooked food.

Sami and Ahmed can barely breath because it stings so much.

Free Car Parts!!

Random Crap July 5th, 2006

I came home and found a package from K&N addressed to me.

except I didn’t order anything from K&N

I went into my room and opened it up and found an air filter.

and it even fits my car

There was a packing slip in there, apparently I ordered a K&N Air filter on June 20, 2006….

So, I’m not as worried about a free air filter, I’m just trying to figure out how they got my address….

New Case to go with upgrade

Random Crap July 5th, 2006

I was thinking over the purchase I’m going to be making to upgrade my computer.

And I decided that I’m not going to keep the peice of crap case I have right now (proprietary peice of crap case, very flimsy and psu doesn’t even fit), so I decided to get a kick ass one, I decided on This case from Newegg. Looks nice and it’s cheap :)

update: Newegg took down the item. No case for me then :’(

A 286 running as a web server!!!

Random Crap July 4th, 2006

Was reading digg earlier and came across where someone was running a Minix Web Server on a 286 (12 Mhz)
If that baby can survive the Digg effect, that’ll give me hope for my mini-server :)
