US Citizens Can Now Be Deemed “Enemy Combatants” and Stripped of All Rights

Random Crap September 29th, 2006

“A federal appeals court Wednesday ruled President Bush has the authority to designate U.S. citizens as “enemy combatants” and detain them in military custody if they are deemed a threat to national security.”

Guess I’m voting Democratic then getting the hell out of here.

Getting a TV!

Bellevue, College, Geekin' out September 21st, 2006

I haven’t posted in awhile. Classes have started up this week, I’m excited to be back in school again! This quarter I’m taking a full 18 credits:

BTS 144 Personal Info Manager
Anth 180 Anthropology – American Life
Phys 109 Science for IT
Tech 294 Tech Support Internship

So far the classes are pretty awesome, except for BTS144. The class basically teaches you to use Microsoft Outlook, which sucks major. I use Outlook at work constantly, doing more then just email. So far this week she’s gone over the basic interface (Click the inbox button and you will be able to see your emails!), and the homework was gasp type a template email from the book, reply to it with a template reply, then forward it with a template reply and print it out!

Anthropology seems like it’s going to be a great class, I really like the teacher, she seems to be a very optimistic teacher, I’ve been sitting in the far back because I’ve been late, but I’m going to move up a little so she knows i care about the class.
Science for IT is an interesting class, I don’t really have much to say about it, it’s basically a physics class for IT students!
I’m moving right now, I hope to have almost all my stuff out by sunday, I bought a huge TV off craigslist, it’s a 27” Zenith HDTV. I got it for 50 bucks! TV stand included! I’m going to go pick it up tomorrow, Eric is going to help me get it, since he has a big truck that can fit big things!
And the guy I’m buying it from has a corner table and chair that he’s going to be getting rid of in a couple weeks and he said he would email me when he’s getting ready to sell it!

This is far too awesome, it’s a clip from a norwegian reality show where a girl has been tasked to switch a PC’s CPU.

Where my books at?!

Bellevue, College, Pullman September 10th, 2006

College is coming and it’s time to get myself some books.
So a couple weeks ago I hopped onto the BCC bookstore site and figured out which books I needed, then went over to Amazon and bought them all used :P
Well, it’s been two weeks and I haven’t received a single one! I was talking to my mom earlier tonight and I mentioned this, and then she said that a couple packages showed up for me last week.
So, I was a little baffled by this, then realized that I still had my default shipping address set to pullman (whenever i order i just select my new one, i’ve been too lazy to remove the pullman address) and that I forget to select my bellevue address!
Well, I asked my mom to ship them over to me and she’s going to. But, I’m curious as to why she didn’t that I had a couple packages waiting for me!?

and on a sidenote, we got declined on the house I mentioned earlier, so now me, alex, and eric are all scrambling to find another house that we all like :/

Optimized my box!

Geekin' out September 8th, 2006

So last night I finally decided to fix a few problems with my new desktop computer.
First, take a look at this cpu-z printout.

If you look closely, the bus speed is 214Mhz. That is actually the HyperTransport speed. And for an AMD Athlon 64 3800+, it support hypertransport speeds up to 2000 Mhz.
And another thing, If you look at the Ram speed, it’s running at 321Mhz with timings of 4-4-4-15. Originally it was running at about 200Mhz, I manually clocked the ram speed up at the time. That’s roughly DDR2 600.
My ram is supposed to be running at DDR2 800, and the timings should be 5-5-5-10.
What does this all mean? My PC has been running underclocked and underpowered for about a month. So I’ve been suffering :/
I was talking to someone recently and they said that I couldn’t do any real damage if i messed up while changing, since the Bios will detect a bad settings and refuse to POST. So last night I went ahead and made all the changes in the Bios!
Well, here’s the new setup.
The ram is running double it’s previous speed, and the Bus speed is double what it was (Actually, I increased the hypertransport from about 300 to 1800Mhz, bios doesn’t support 2000Mhz ( ). I also fixed the timings and increased the voltage so it’s powered properly.
So now my system is running a lot smoother then it was before! Unfortunately Windows freezes up after about 5 minutes, but it boots a hell of a lot faster! I’m currently in Kubuntu Edgy Eft posting this and everything is running wonderfully )

woops?

Random Crap September 6th, 2006

so, today I totally fuckered a computer I was working on.

I have to get 6 computers setup for a department, all linux. So to speed it up, we setup one computer, then I was going to just copy the partitions over using the tar command.

Well, I screwed up while doing the second one, so I go to the directory I had the drive mounted in and did a rm -rf *
You’d think it would just do everything inside /mnt? Nope, it did everything in / !
So, I destroyed the master drive, and copying back from the original drive did not work :/
