Today I decided it was time to bit the bullet and do the crap jobs in hope of job security. Well, the director sent out an email saying next week there was going to be an audit, so someone needed to cleanup the server room.
Right now it’s a huge mess, so I figured that I may as well volunteer myself before someone else volunteered me for the job. So I sent an email saying I would do it, just tell me what you don’t want and what you want.

Later today the director and I went down to the server room and told me what he did and didn’t want and other stuff, then he told me he got my contract extended through June!

Yay! 6 more months of guranteed workage!!

free shit!

Random Crap November 26th, 2006

Yesterday me and Chris went up to Robins place.

Apparently he and his wife have a habit of buying lots of cool shit and then discarding it for more cool shit, but they never get rid of their cool shit.
So, Robin decided that instead of having to throw it in the trash, he’d have us come by and we’d grab it all!

So, I managed to plunder a few sweet things:

1x HP iPaq 6315
2x Tmobile PW10B1
1x Cassiopia w/ GPS dongle
1x Microsoft Wireless B router
1x Microsoft usb Wireless adapter
3x docking stations for Tmobile PW10B1
1x Docking station for iPaq
2x Carrying cases for iPaq
1x Microsoft 2.1 speaker system
1×16-port 10/100 linksys switch

I might have forgotten some stuff, but yeah, lots of free cool shit!

I gave one of the pocket pc’s to Alex, I’m going to use the iPaq when i switch to Tmobile, I have those Moto v5005’s too, So I may just switch between phones depending on what I’m doing I guess.

Yay for cool shit!

Chartership achieved

Circle K, College November 23rd, 2006

I went to the student board meeting on tuesday, and this time they had the application! It was a pretty speedy process, didn’t take too long. BCC Circle K has now been chartered, and now i get to wait for a rep from the board to email me.
I’ve been talking to Rudy (the adviser) and we’re going to get meetings going next quarter. I’m thinking I’ll do them on wednsdays at 1 or 2pm or something. My schedule this time around will be a lot lighter and not as crazy. I’m only taking 3 classes as follows:

English 101 with Cofer
MW 3pm-5:10pm
General Business 101 with Johnson
Daily 11:30am-12:20pm
Programming 110 with Beauvais
MW 5:30pm-7:40pm

The general business class has me a bit worried though, I really like my current job, but it is going to interfere with it, if the class is 11:30-12:20 everyday, i won’t be able to work a straight 8 hours. I’m going to talk to my boss on monday, but I’m not even sure if I will still be working then, he told me he’s working on getting my job extending to June, but I have no idea what’s going on.
I guess I’m going to talk to him and see what he says, I’ll just take my lunch at that time I suppose. There’s also the option to take it with another instructor at a different time, but according to rmp.com, Johnson is the best instructor, and it’s either a 11:30-12:20 class or 12:30-1:20pm with him.

Why is it that anytime I need to study for a class, I end up cleaning my entire house?

Me and Helen played with my Wii!

Geekin' out November 20th, 2006

Last night me and Helen went to pick-up My Wii! We got there at about 1am or so, I showed my pre-order slip and was immediately let in! I bought Zelda: Twilight Princess and Red Steel with my Wii. I also grabbed a second set of controllers! At the time me and Helen were pretty tired from the day, so we ended up going to bed (I was a bit restless but I managed to get a few hours of sleep in).
Anywho, Today we set it all up, was a breeze getting it setup and everything. Helen played Wii Sports for a bit and had a lot of fun with it, then we played Red Steel. Hella confusing at first (I’m going to need to play the story first to get a hang of the controls, I had them somewhat figured out though), then I played Zelda for awhile. It was pretty fun! I got a little distracted by chasing a chicken and a cat, but it was pretty awesome.

Later on Alex picked it up while we were away and after i dropped Helen off at home i came back and watched Alex play. It was pretty entertaining just watching him play. Normally when you watch someone play a game it’s rather boring, they’re just sitting there button mashing and nothing interesting happens. However with the Wii it’s different, Alex was totally into it, he was swinging the Wiimote around slashing Zelda’s sword and totally kicking ass. Even though he was sitting down he was enjoying himself immensely, it was pretty awesome just watching him play with his movements being performed by Zelda!
However I had to pull us away from the Wii :( since we have class tomorrow and homework to do!

Yesterday I had a phone interview at 2:30. so I got out of class about ten minutes early so that I could get home and prep for it. I get to my car at 2, and the phone rings.

Crap

They called early! I was pretty much caught off guard, and ended up having the entire interview in my car. Which really blows ass. I wasn’t ready at all for it, so I was very choppy with my answers and i wasn’t very consistent with my responses. The entire interview was held inside my car in the BCC parking garage.
I’m pretty sure I came off sounding like I didn’t really know all that much, AND I DO KNOW WHAT I’M DOING! fuuuucccckkkk. From the sound of it, I’d be doing a lot of remote support and occasionally server management. This was just a pre-interview, so I may or may not get another call/email to schedule an actual in-person interview later. And I’m sure as hell going to be prepared for that one.

Post-FCON

Circle K, College, Friends November 12th, 2006

Yay, finally back from fall conference! It was bunches of fun, I managed to obtain some valuable information about recruiting members, chartering, and fundraisers. I think I made myself known too. I finally met helen’s friend Vicki. To be honest I was rather paranoid about meeting her considering that we had a conversation about a week ago via facebook that followed as such:

Vicki: Yo! don’t get shanked!
Me: There will be no shanking. Maybe at FCON.
Vicki: U promise?
Me: I’ll take a shanking if I deserve one. Aaaannd I don’t really plan on getting shanked anytime soon.
Vicki: Watch yourself

However as I later learned, she was messing with me, she’s a really fun person to hang out with, and I can honestly say that she is my first black friend! (i’m not counting the ones my parents called my friends when i was a wee munchkin).

Went to lots of workshops, talked to lots of people, hung out with Helen.
By the way, I’m pretty sure everyone who was at FCON thinks we’re dating, which we’re not. We’re just together at the moment, more information later (remember, public blog).

And to finish off, Helen looks incredibly sexy in a skirt, button shirt, and bowtie.

Bleh, I had my feed being imported to facebook, which i thought was an awesome idea. However after awhile I quickly discovered that unlike here, I don’t have a pseudo-anonymous audience. So I’ve sorta held off on a lot of stuff I usually post about!

So, for a quick summary of what’s been going on in my life:

last week:

Sunday: Halloween Party
Monday: Massive headache, not very entertaining. Had to go volunteer too.
Tuesday: Worked. Helen came over and we watched Heroes
Wednsday: Class, not very eventful (as far as I can remember)
Thursday: Worked some more and had lunch with Helen, started on Cluster project for work, started about 2 hours late, not much got done. Helen came over, finished watching heroes.
Friday: Class and work, Worked on the cluster some more, almost got it done but lacked a certain disc to finish.
Saturday: Worked at lab, not much occured.
Sunday: Came in to work for 5 hours, got some work done, cleaned up my workspace. Grabbed Helen from her house, we had a meeting at 7am on monday. Figured it would be easier if she stayed in bellevue and i drove her back to her place in the morning.

So, lots of crap has happened, I’ll start posting more details about everything later.
